Lower Brinsop Writers’ House, a 15th century Grade II listed former Hall House in unspoilt Herefordshire countryside, offers a stimulating and inspiring environment for creative practitioners. Set in four acres including a medieval carp lake, and featuring a plethora of wildlife – as well as our own sheep, pigs, pygmy goats and chickens – it’s the perfect place to work on a project, or just find inspiration to start a new one. Surrounded by archaeological heritage and set in a beautiful valley which William Wordsworth frequented and where Thomas Traherne lived and worked. Mediaeval castles, towns, churches and cathedrals, the Black and White villages of the Welsh borders, Offa’s Dyke and Hay on Wye, the Black Mountains and the Cambrians are all close by. An hourly bus service runs to Hereford Railway Station and the city. [We are an ecologically aware site, using no harmful products, and offer an echarger.]
The centre is led by distinguished writers with international careers and long combined experience as writing centre and festival directors. Fiona Sampson and Peter Salmon are also highly experienced teachers of creative writing, with a wealth of experience in supporting writers at all stages of their artistic journey.
